During product?

After product?

Case study; Describe all types of research you should do if you worked for a company that wanted to come up with an idea for a new video game.

Qualititative Research

Qualititative Research

Qualititative research is a different type of research that is used from your primary and secondary research to create vital information about the details in the media industry. It collections the persons opinions and answers they have given us and put them in some sort of graph. We can use this to find out data about what certain people like and dilike about a subject. An example of this is;

  • This is good data to use about what film people think are the best because it gives us peoples reviews about the certain films.
  • A disavantage of using this a inportant information is that it is what people think and sometimes people have different opinoins about stuff.

Quantitative Research

Quantitative Research

Quantitative Research is research that contains numbers. and we can use this vauble information from our primary and secondary research, this is a good way to get accurate data. This can create results include ratings, circulation and viewing figures. For example; Here is an example of a graph showing how many people buy what newspaper.

This is good to use because it is very accurate.

However this maight be too confusing for some people and wouldnt know where to start.

This would be good for the graph at the top it makes the data alot more userfriendly.

Secondary Research

Secondary Research

Secondary research is data that has already been collected and published by someone else. You can get hold of this information over the internet, books and encyclopedia.

Example of a secondary research;

·         Periodicals.
·         Specialist marketing reports i.e Mintel
·         Industry magazines.
·         Chamber of commerce.
·         Government statistics.
·         Internet.
·         Professional bodies.
·         Trade associations.
Here Is an example
Off the internet

Gears of War 25 million[42]N/A
  • JP July 30, 2009
Third-person shooterEpic GamesMicrosoft
This is a good secondary research because it is clear and gives us some good information about the games sold for a console. However, This is bad data o use because we do not know if this is correct information about the games. On the other hand, We do not know who has done this table and if we can trust this data in our research.
Disavanages of Secondary Research;

·         The information and data may not be accurate
·         The data maybe old and out of date.
·         The sample used to generate the secondary data maybe small.
·         The company publishing the data may not be reputable.

Advantages of Secodary Research;

·         Easy to get hold of the data.
·         It can also save you alot of money.
·         Saves time and effort.
·         Can sometimes be reliable.

Primary Research

Primary Research

Primary research involves collecting data or information about a subject directly that you find out and collect yourself. For examples surveys, questionair and focus groups. Many people use this method to collect information about Movies, Games and general topics. It is an easy way to find out alot of important data fast and sometimes more accurate and can save you alot of money and time you can somethimes get fake answers and people who write anything that they think you want to hear.

 For example if Iwas going to collect information about a Radio Station I would conduct a survey asking general questions like; Age, Gender and personal options. The best thing about using primary reasearches is that it is easy to tell if somesome is lying about a question you can tell it is going to be a unreliable answer. When you are interveiwing someone it is a more accurate and realible but however it cost more and also need a lot of time seeing people one by one.
